#AntarcticLog: The Ant-Antarctic
Posted by Olivia Ambrogio
#AntarcticLog is a series of comics by Karen Romano Young. You can find the originals here.
AntarcticLog chimes in this week with an alarm bell from Arctic waters.
Snow crabs aren’t the only thing shifting and shimmying in Alaska. High schoolers in the coastal town of Newtok are keeping an eye on the effects of permafrost thaw there.
And a broader view shows how that thaw relates to permafrost change across the Arctic.
My first experience with Alaska was in 2010. What I found there inspired me to begin using visual storytelling to talk about climate change, the genesis of science comics like this one.
Now I go around to schools, libraries, and museums sharing visual storytelling methods with the next generation of storytellers — kids, whose futures will be shaped by changes big and small that we’re seeing today.
