#AntarcticLog: The importance of stories

Here’s my comic about the puppet refugee girl Little Amal, posted just a few weeks ago.
By now I shouldn’t be surprised — just grateful — at the way certain stories have broad appeal. I’m beginning to learn to trust myself — that stories and images that appeal to me will affect others too. Maybe not the same way as they affect me, but in the way of individual people wherever they are. For example, this one, featuring Mother Earth.
This week’s selection of #AntarcticLog comics are some of the ones that seemed to have this kind of personal — though international — reach. They renew my faith in people — and in comics. Some come out of a sad heart:
And others come from the joy of discovering that people who speak many different languages — and who are working together on one science research expedition — want to help tell their story. We had a total of 12 languages aboard the JOIDES Resolution for Expedition 379.
