#AntarcticLog: Antarctic Bears

Posted by Shane Hanlon

#AntarcticLog is a series of comics by Karen Romano Young. You can find the originals here.
When you think of Antarctic beasts, the tardigrade might not be the first to come to mind. But new research from the British Antarctic Survey shows that the ones in Antarctica represent a divergence hailing back to the time when the continent was cut off from the rest of the world.

It’s not the first time #AntarcticLog has featured tardigrades. Here’s a three-part comic about the adventures of NASA JPL’s Ariel Waldman, when she investigated cryoconites in the Dry Valleys of Antarctica.

Ariel was a fellow NSF Antarctic Artists and Writers grantee when I featured her before.

She photographs and writes about her journeys and the scientists and research she works with.

Where’s Ariel now? Back down in the Dry Valleys of Antarctica, sending back more of her amazing stories.  Subscribe to her blogposts here.
