#AntarcticLog: Happy New Year!
Posted by Shane Hanlon
#AntarcticLog is a series of comics by Karen Romano Young. You can find the originals here.
George Wortley posted pictures and news from Amundsen-South Pole Station this week, and I loved them so much I turned them into this week’s comic.
The South Pole is as mysterious to me as it is to you. I rely on other people’s stories to get a sense of what it’s like. This one’s from Guy Guthridge, and I appreciate it. Even more, I appreciate Guy, who founded the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Artists and Writers program. I’m always looking for ways to get back to the ice — in person or through stories like this.
I am glad to see that the line of Polies passing the flag from the old geographic location of the South Pole to the new one includes many women. Here’s a comic I did about the first women to arrive at the South Pole. All respect to them!
And thank you George. Happy New Year to you!
