High Risk- The Day After

The last several posts have been about the high risk of tornadoes over the Southeastern United States on Saturday. You probably have already heard of the tornado that hit Yazoo City in Mississippi . Tornadoes Strike North Alabama- Damage and Injuries

Major damage and some injuries are being reported in Albertville, Alabama and in Geraldine Alabama from a tornado Saturday night. These tornadoes follow the twister that hit Yazoo City in Mississippi on Saturday afternoon. That storm left 10 dead. The image above is showing winds toward and away from the radar. Large Tornado Crosses Mississippi- Heavy Damage/Deaths

Reports of heavy damage in Mississippi continue to come in. Madison Parish and Yazoo City seem to be the hardest hit. There were reports of cars blown off the road along Interstate 55 in Central Miss. Update 6PM Huntsville time: 7 deaths in Yazoo City reported. Video shows widespread severe damage.

NOAA- Rare High Risk of Severe Storms For SE USA Saturday

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman Oklahoma has upgraded the moderate risk of severe weather to a HIGH RISK for a large area of North and Western Alabama and much of Mississippi for Saturday. New model guidance tonight indicates that wind shear and instability will be very conducive for the formation of super-cell thunderstorms and some long track tornadoes. Update: Deadly Tornado Outbreak More Likley Now

A deadly weekend tornado outbreak is becoming more likely this evening. Conditions are coming together for potentially violent long track tornadoes across much of Mississippi and Alabama on Saturday. Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana are also threatened. It is quite possible conditions may reach the threshold for a rare High Risk outlook from the Storm Prediction Center (NOAA) in Norman. The Ash Is Thinning!

Great news for air travelers this evening. The eruption in Iceland is now putting out much less ash and the cloud is much lower. The low level ash is not headed toward the UK as the image above shows. The snow-cap that covered the volcano has melted away. Gorgeous NASA Shot of Iceland Ash Cloud- Heathrow Reopening?? (Updated 0230GMT)

There is actually some good news tonight. The ash cloud over Europe has diminished and begun to sink south of Paris and London. Here is the outlook for tomorrow regarding the no go areas. Late word tonight that the eruption has picked back up. The current wind flow will steer the new ash cloud toward the UK, Central England in particular.
