Last 10 Years Hottest Decade On Record- UK Met. Office

The UK Met. Office released data today showing that 2000-2009 was the warmest decade since instrumental records began in the 1850’s. The data also highlights the silliness of those claiming that stolen emails show a cover-up. The data was run with Climate Research Unit (CRU) data and with data from NASA and NOAA. There was very little difference. If anyone tells you the planet is not warming, or the warming …

It's not easy going to the South Pole- but it's going to be worth It!

As you may know if you read these ramblings frequently, I am headed to the bottom of the world in three weeks. The National Science Foundation accepted an application from myself and Ann Posegate of the Nat. Env. Education Foundation to visit Antarctica to spread the word about the science and the scientists at the bottom of the world. So once you get selected what happens next? You don’t just …

Are We Living Through A Notable Moment In Science History??

The class that most impressed me while at university was not taught by one of my meteorology professors. Not that I didn’t have some good ones. One became a provost of the University of Oklahoma, and another has written two text books that are considered the gold standard on dynamics (read that as mean math) and makes frequent appearances on the Discovery Channel with Tornadoes bearing down on him! Instead …

Get The jab, and learn What a semi-colon means before you accuse scientists of fraud.

I have a pile of things that I’ve wanted to write about, but it’s been a busy time with a family illness. That said, here are some great pieces of good Science I have run across this week. All are worth a look. First of all a salute to the ROYAL SOCIETY by the BBC in the form of an audio visual slide show. Mouse on the pic below to …

Watch This Video Before Saying Something Silly On Twitter.

Potholer54 is his handle on you tube. He’s a Geologist who also worked as a science correspondent for two decades. Recently he  has produced some truly great videos (based on real peer reviewed science) about climate change. They illustrate  just how silly and ridiculous some of the online “climate change is a- hoax!/conspiracy!/ one world government/communist plot” web sites are. Potholer  released another one this weekend. This one covers yet …

Top Climate Science Course- Online and FREE!

David Archer at the University of Chicago teaches an excellent course based on his book UNDERSTANDING THE FORECAST. If you read this site regularly, you will know that I have highly recommended that book several times. The course is for NON science majors who want an understanding of the science behind the IPCC reports. Basic math only (and that’s really enough to have a very good understanding of what is …

I'm Heading To The Bottom of The World!

I’ve been keeping a big secret. Way back in August I had a call from a friend  who works at the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) in Washington, DC. She asked if I’d heard that the National Science Foundation was opening up applications for science reporters to visit Antarctica. In case you have never looked into the logistics of going to the South Pole, let me educate you! I have. Oh, have …

Kudos to Meteorologist/Professor Scott Mandia

Sometimes it takes someone not in the forest to make the best sense of it. Most of the climate researchers ignore the junk those of us who work in media hear everyday. The widespread dissemination of this pseudo science is why I and several of my friends in meteorology have decided to blog on Climate Science on a frequent basis. Scott Mandia has produced an excellent presentation he takes to …

Yet Another Independent Confirmation of Warming

In Science, one piece of data, even if it’s conclusive is never the whole story. A consensus is not likely unless there are multiple independent sets of data that all point to the same thing. The age of the Earth is a good example. There are dozens of independent methods of estimating the age of our small spinning fragment of solar driftwood. (I stole that line from Orson Welles by …

Mother Nature's Two For One Sale on Record Highs

Not that it will change any minds. The overwhelming evidence of the last decade has convinced all those it will I think, but just in case there are those who are just beginning to ask questions… A few months back, I was adding up the record highs and the record lows for some sample years in the 1990’s and 2000’s. A friend tipped me to the raw data. He told …
