We had a turkey in the yard this week:
Pretty cool. These photos were taken from my “office” on the second floor of our house, through the window overlooking the front “yard.”
I saw a flock of about 15 individual turkeys strutting through a neighbor’s field last week, too.
I love living out here in the Fort.
Callan Bentley is Associate Professor of Geology at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville, Virginia. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America. For his work on this blog, the National Association of Geoscience Teachers recognized him with the James Shea Award. He has also won the Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council on Higher Education in Virginia, and the Biggs Award for Excellence in Geoscience Teaching from the Geoscience Education Division of the Geological Society of America. In previous years, Callan served as a contributing editor at EARTH magazine, President of the Geological Society of Washington and President the Geo2YC division of NAGT.

Hate to outdo you but I had three males behind my house last week. Be on the look-out this winter for even large rafters (flocks). All the birds born the previous year flock up over the winter for protection. I have seen rafters of up to 70 birds on my farm in SW Indiana.
