Malaysia earthquake: early reports of seismically-triggered landslides

Early reports suggest that the M=6.0 Malaysia earthquake this morning may have triggered landslides and rockfalls, especially on Mount Kinabalu, where five climbers are thought to have been killed.

The human side of landslides

The recent passage of Hurricane Tomas across St Lucia, about which I have posted previously, has left a trail of destruction that has been surprisingly under-reported in the mainstream media. There are some dramatic pictures of the impact of the storm on this blog. Emerging from the wreckage is a very human story of the destructive nature of landslides.

Fatal landslides in 2009 so far – a review on the solstice

The summer solstice today seems like a good time to take stock of the position with fatal landslides to date, as collected in the Durham Fatal Landslide Database.
