This is the presentation that I gave to NDMA in Islamabad. It is the first time it has been freely available.
Thanks David for your continues effort and attention on the landslide affected areas and the dam itself. your report and presentation is the scientific evidence and guidance for the government of pakistan to learn some lessons from your great contribution.though the lake is now in its final phase and the indications that now the government gives is same as you had indicated before in your report. Now it seems there is a huge risk of lake burst and today we heard from the local news that army is evacuating people from the downstream area due to the risks.
Hello Dr.I truely appreciate the work you have done for relief and technical support for landslide at Hunza, Pakistan. I am working with Google on Map Maker project to map Pakistan. I have made a support page with almost daily updated maps of area on latest available situation. This can be viewed at http://www.local.com.pk/hunza/ We are also in process of acquiring latest imagery as soon as possible after the one latest we had from NASA requested through Google which is also now on all their mapping products. I hope these maps may help on grounds in movement of mass & transportation. More updates on our end are also at http://groups.google.com/group/google-mapmaker/browse_thread/thread/1eff52694d5730a6?pli=1 & http://www.facebook.com/GMapsPKThanks
Dear Dr Dave Thanks for the presentation any chance you can show the whole set of slides which show area hights along the risk zone. I am concerned that some of the camps for evacuees may be being set up in areas of <60 metres height as per your map. I work in development and also have family in Gilgit – so would use them in making wise decisions personally and proffessionally
Dear Dr.i m surprised to know the 10ft rise on 17 by some ofthe dam monitoring teams rather tahn Focus, and some channels and news papers also propagated this too much. instead of 800cusic GLOF in upstream the riaing level on 17 was only 3ft 8 inches with only 8 inches increase from the previous. on the very firat day of the GLOF we reached on the site and calculated discharge, it was 1300cusic total, with only addition of 8oocusic than previous. this wrong reports by the TV channels and newspapers had adverse impact on the population downstream.i dont think that 19ft increase in peak summer in the dam.sher wali Geographer(Focus Pakistan, monitoring incharge upatream)
