Christine Bassett is a doctoral candidate in Geological Sciences at The University of Alabama. Her research focuses on understanding oceanographic conditions in the eastern North Pacific Ocean over the last 10,000 years. She is involved in the Unalaska Sea Ice Project, where she uses ancient clams to reconstruct past changes in seasonality in the Aleutian Islands. Christine is also working with modern Pacific abalone shells to develop a method of producing sub-annual records of upwelling off the California coast. She also works to communicate the economic and societal value of science through community engagement and outreach.
