2023 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report on Teaching and Learning

Posted by Laura Guertin

cover image for Horizon reportEach year, EDUCAUSE releases a report summarizing “key trends and emerging technologies and practices shaping the future of teaching and learning, and envisions a number of scenarios and implications for that future” (prior blog posts on previous Horizon Reports are available to view here on GeoEd Trek).

Campus Technology published some highlights of the contents of the report. The article notes the three most influential factors in higher education include:

  • The growing potential for AI to become mainstream
  • The blurring of a course offered as online versus face-to-face (it’s not one or the other – it’s both)
  • More people are able to generate digital content, thanks to technologies that do not require knowledge of how to code (or minimal coding requirements)

The Horizon Report also identifies six key technologies that will have an impact, and examples of each are provided in the Report.
