Northern Michigan temperatures reached 86º at mid afternoon Wednesday. This is an astounding 49 degrees above the average for the day and time. At the same time, the lower Miss. Valley is being hit with flooding rains. Look at some of the rain totals below:
From NWS Detroit:
A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 83 DEGREES WAS SET AT THE SANDERSON FIELD AIRPORT IN SAULT STE MARIE MI ON WEDNESDAY...WHICH BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 57 DEGREES SET IN 1946. TODAYS HIGH TEMPERATURE ALSO BREAKS THE ALL-TIME MARCH HIGH TEMPERATURE...WHICH WAS 75 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1946.
Cant help but wonder if our new energy and national security strategy is to thaw the Arctic to get assured oil access. If it’s not our actual strategy, it appears to be our defacto emerging one. Unfortunately I remember about a decade ago the Russians used a submarine to place their flag at the North Pole to symbolize THEIR intent to exploit the polar oil. maybe we are borrowing a page from their play book. I fear we may be moving rapidly toward Termination 0 and unable to stop it because we’re broke – in more than one way. War planners always have a gloom and doom outlook so Hope I’m wrong.

I’ve wondered the same thing. They’re certainly up there exploring and drilling in places that were only recently under glacier.
