Nancy Ingabire Abayo is a second-year Civil Engineering Ph.D. student at North Carolina State University. Her research seeks to evaluate contributing factors and devise methods to reduce the variability that is currently found in the measured and predicted liquefaction-induced lateral spreading. She has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and a B.A. in Geology from Bucknell University. Nancy aspires to become a professor, to teach in developing countries while conducting research in earthquake-prone regions. Nancy is passionate about STEM education on which her outreach efforts are centered. She is also enthusiastic about science communication, especially in non-native English speakers’ communities.
