Dunes in West Arabia Terra

Posted by Ryan Anderson

I don’t have time to do a full post tonight, so I will placate you with a pretty picture:

This picture was taken by the HiRISE instrument on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). I always describe it to people as a spy satellite around mars because it takes SUPER high resolution pictures. The ones available online as jpegs don’t even come close to the true resolution of about 30 cm per pixel. I’ll let you click the link in the picture to learn more about it, and I’ll let Briony educate you about dunes when she posts about her research.

Also, I heard today about an awesome new picture that HiRISE took, but I can’t tell you what it is yet because there hasn’t been a press release… I’ll be sure to post it here ASAP once it is publicly released.
