Cant help but wonder if our new energy and national security strategy is to thaw the Arctic to get assured oil access. If it’s not our actual strategy, it appears to be our defacto emerging one. Unfortunately I remember about a decade ago the Russians used a submarine to place their flag at the North Pole to symbolize THEIR intent to exploit the polar oil. maybe we are borrowing a page from their play book. I fear we may be moving rapidly toward Termination 0 and unable to stop it because we’re broke – in more than one way. War planners always have a gloom and doom outlook so Hope I’m wrong.

I’ve wondered the same thing. They’re certainly up there exploring and drilling in places that were only recently under glacier.
