Ryan Anderson
Ryan grew up in Michigan and majored in astronomy and physics at the University of Michigan. Now as a graduate student at Cornell, he is learning to do geology on Mars. His research is focused on the upcoming MSL mission. He is studying the potential landing sites and also shoots rocks with lasers to improve the analysis of data from the ChemCam instrument. He also is a Pancam Payload Downlink Lead for the Mars rovers. When he’s not doing work, Ryan’s hobbies include feeling guilty about not doing work, blogging, reading (especially sci-fi and fantasy), playing video games, and cooking good food.

Ryan Anderson is the Shoemaker Postdoctoral Fellow at the U.S. Geological Survey Astrogeology Science Center. Ryan has a background in Physics and Astronomy and received his PhD in Planetary Science from Cornell University. His research helped lead to the selection of the Gale crater landing site for the Mars Science Laboratory rover "Curiosity", and he is on the science team for the ChemCam instrument on Curiosity. He is a payload downlink lead for ChemCam and for the Pancam color cameras on the Opportunity rover.
