USA Records Second Hottest Summer On Record
Climate Highlights — August (from NCDC) The average U.S. temperature in August was 75.7 degrees F (24.3 degrees C), which is 3.0 degrees F (1.6 degrees C) above the long-term (1901-2000) average, resulting in the second warmest August on record. NHC missed the Irene Forecast?? I Think Not.
Every meteorologist/forecaster I know agrees that the NHC forecasters did an amazing job on Irene. Yes, the intensity forecast was a little high on the landfall forecast for N. Carolina, but the skill in intensity forecasts is still a much bigger problem than track and the 24 hour forecast was quite close. NOAA- July 7th Warmest on Record Globally;NASA Ranks It 3rd.
The NCDC has the July data out today and it was the 7th warmest on record,while NASA GISS (using slightly different methods) data has July at the 3rd hottest on record. Oklahoma July Temp. Average Is Hottest of Any State-Ever
From the NCDC today: “Oklahoma’s statewide average temperature was the warmest monthly statewide average temperature on record for any state during any month.” That amazing statistic underscores just what kind of summer it has been across the U.S. and the records keep falling.
