Upcoming plans

Posted by Callan Bentley

A heads-up: I’m leaving Wednesday afternoon for a 3 week trip to South Africa. My wife Lily and I are off on our half-year-delayed honeymoon (to be distinguished from our Canadian Rockies pre-honeymoon last summer mainly by its exorbitant cost and low levels of geology). We will be spending the day in downtown London, England, on Thursday, and then we’ll get to Johannesburg on Friday morning. The plan is to go on a 5-day safari in Kruger National Park and adjacent areas, then hang out with friends in Jo’burg (folks we met on the Patagonian ferry in 2009). Then it’s time for a domestic flight to Cape Town, where Evelyn Mervine will help us get situated. We’re going to do a 5-day backpacking trip in Table Mountain National Park on the Hoerikwaggo Trail. Then our plan is to go towards Africa’s southernmost point, and check out the great white sharks and whales there, and come back to Cape Town for New Year’s Eve. New Year’s day will see us initiate the long journey back home, via Jo’burg, London, and New York. I’ve scheduled some blog posts to automatically post in my absence, but I likely won’t be able to moderate or respond to comments with any kind of regularity until early January. If I don’t get a chance to say it again, then let me take this opportunity to wish all my readers a wonderful winter break, happy holidays if you celebrate them, and warmth and cheer and love and satisfaction and good food in general.
