{"id":7205,"date":"2013-11-05T00:01:32","date_gmt":"2013-11-05T00:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=7205"},"modified":"2013-11-04T16:37:47","modified_gmt":"2013-11-04T16:37:47","slug":"geoff-townson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/11\/05\/geoff-townson\/","title":{"rendered":"Landslides in Art Part 19: Geoff Townson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is Part 19 of my occasional Landslides in Art series, this time featuring the Dorset artist Geoff Townson.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/05\/27\/landslides-in-art-part-18-elena-damiani\/\">Part 18 is here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geofftownson.co.uk\/a1-page.asp?page=0\">Geoff Townson<\/a> is an artist based in that classic landslide area, the West Dorset.\u00a0 Given that he has both a degree and a PhD in geology, and he worked in the oil industry for almost 30 years, it is not surprising that much of his work (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geofftownson.co.uk\/a1-gallery2.asp?roomID=1155\">though not all by any means<\/a>) features the geological aspects of landscapes.\u00a0 And given that he lives in such close proximity to many active landslides, it is equally unsurprising that landslides feature heavily in his work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geofftownson.co.uk\/a1-page.asp?page=0\">Geoff has a good website that shows his many works<\/a> &#8211; his paintings are well-priced and some are available as cards as well.\u00a0 If you browse his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geofftownson.co.uk\/a1-gallery2.asp?roomID=1153\">Dorset Landscapes<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geofftownson.co.uk\/a1-gallery2.asp?roomID=1152\">Dorset Seascapes<\/a> sections you&#8217;ll see a variety of landslide-related pictures. I thought I&#8217;d feature three here, all of which are within the <a href=\"http:\/\/jurassiccoast.org\/find-out-about\/the-science-of-a-beautiful-landscape\/1007-lyme-regis-to-golden-cap-soft-stuff\">classic landslide group on the West Dorset coast<\/a>.\u00a0 First, this one is entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/landslides\/StonebarrowHill.html\">Evans Cliff Landslip<\/a> Charmouth &#8211;
