{"id":6874,"date":"2013-09-13T14:10:35","date_gmt":"2013-09-13T14:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=6874"},"modified":"2013-09-13T14:10:35","modified_gmt":"2013-09-13T14:10:35","slug":"a-video-of-riverbank-collapses-in-utah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/09\/13\/a-video-of-riverbank-collapses-in-utah\/","title":{"rendered":"A video of riverbank collapses in Utah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to Greg Springer for the heads up on this one.\u00a0 Parts of the USA have been receving exceptional levels of rainfall of late, causing flash floods and landslides across a wide area.\u00a0 On September 11th, the following video of a large flood in Wahweap Creek in Southern Utah was captured by David Rankin.\u00a0 The first half of the video is not particularly exciting; it gets really interesting at about 1 minute 15 seconds, when it starts to focus on riverbank failures.\u00a0 The collapses in what appear to be silt terraces:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"HUGE Flash Flood, Southern Utah September 11, 2013\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KHIWsus_a38?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>These are fascinating failures because they have been induced purely by toe support in a comparatively homogenous material.
