{"id":6735,"date":"2013-07-24T16:58:22","date_gmt":"2013-07-24T16:58:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=6735"},"modified":"2013-07-24T16:58:22","modified_gmt":"2013-07-24T16:58:22","slug":"2-landslide-videos-from-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/07\/24\/2-landslide-videos-from-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Two dramatic new landslide videos from China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two new videos have appeared on Youtube showing large, recent landslides in China.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JqplUBNFau0\">The first is from the village of Caopo in Sichuan Province<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dramatic footage: Huge landslide ravages China village\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JqplUBNFau0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It is not clear as to when this happened, and it is not mentioned on Xinhua.\u00a0 The video beautifully shows the extensional flow regime of the landslide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HYGfMhu7-z8\">The second appears to show the aftermath of a very large landslide at Qishan in Gansu Province<\/a>, presumably triggered by the earthquake:<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HYGfMhu7-z8<\/p>\n<p>The title of the video suggests that it buried a village, but I have no idea what this means in reality.\u00a0 The displacement on the back scarp looks to be very large (see screenshot below), and it appears to be a loess landslide, but I have no more information about it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2013\/07\/13_07-China-video-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6737\" alt=\"13_07 China video 1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2013\/07\/13_07-China-video-1.png\" width=\"628\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2013\/07\/13_07-China-video-1.png 628w, https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2013\/07\/13_07-China-video-1-300x161.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>..<\/p>\n<p>Anyone have any more information about either?<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two new videos on Youtube show landslides in China.
