We know that the occurrence of landslides increases dramatically after large earthquakes, especially in the rainy season.  Figure 1 shows that landslides in <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">Sichuan<\/span> occur in the period May to September .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/bmp\/08_05-sichuan-blog-graph-2_bmp.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/bmp\/08_05-sichuan-blog-graph-2_bmp.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Figure 1: <\/span>Monthly occurrence of fatalities from landslides in <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">Sichuan<\/span>, as recorded in the Durham University Landslide Database. <span style=\"font-style: italic\">(Click on the graph for a better view)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/span>The picture is clear &#8211; the <span class=\"blsp-spelling-corrected\">occurrence<\/span> of rainfall induced landslides begins in May and lasts through to October, with the peak occurring in July.
