{"id":6486,"date":"2013-06-02T07:06:46","date_gmt":"2013-06-02T07:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=6486"},"modified":"2013-06-12T16:36:40","modified_gmt":"2013-06-12T16:36:40","slug":"the-physics-of-ice-two-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/06\/02\/the-physics-of-ice-two-videos\/","title":{"rendered":"The physics of snow and ice &#8211; two videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whilst my interest in landslides does not really extend to snow and ice avalanches, sometimes the flow of snow and ice can be quite informative about the ways in which landslides work.\u00a0 Two videos have popped up recently that illustrate this &#8211; both on Livelink.\u00a0 The first shows a slow snow avalanche in Austria, but in landslide terms this is quite similar to a slow debris flow:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.liveleak.com\/ll_embed?f=d5b8e21c106c\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The interesting aspect of this is the way that the structure of the mass and the comparatively low velocities allow the complexities of the flow to be examined.
