{"id":5812,"date":"2013-01-21T07:41:48","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T07:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=5812"},"modified":"2013-01-21T07:43:14","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T07:43:14","slug":"first-reports-of-a-large-landslide-on-mount-cook-in-new-zealand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/01\/21\/first-reports-of-a-large-landslide-on-mount-cook-in-new-zealand\/","title":{"rendered":"First reports of a large landslide on Mount Cook in New Zealand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several newspapers are reporting that a large landslide occurred today on the flanks of Mount Cook.\u00a0 The best report is in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/the-press\/news\/8204648\/Massive-Mt-Cook-rockfall\">The Press<\/a>, which has an image (below) and a description of the landslide:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;A Department of Conservation spokeswoman from the\u00a0Mt Cook office said the rockslide happened just after 2.30pm today.\u00a0 &#8220;It&#8217;s quite massive and I think it has left a scar on the mountain. I haven&#8217;t heard of one this big before; not since the one in December 1991.&#8221; Rocks fell more than 600 metres down the mountain, she said.
