The point is at: 30 degrees 2.728 minutes N, 31 degrees 17.261 minutes E.  This is the Google Earth image of this point:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/08_09-cairo-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/08_09-cairo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>The cliff from which the failure occurred is clear, as are the houses below.  According to various people there has been considerable development in this area since the image was collected.<\/p>\n<p>Helpfully, the following image is online of the cliff before the failure.  The image is on a Panoramio site belonging to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.panoramio.com\/user\/56689\">Hazem Mamdouh<\/a>:<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/08_09-cairo-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/08_09-cairo-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>It appears to me that this image was taken from on top of the railway embankment.  Compare that with this image, taken from <a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/ghafari.re\/Doweiqa_MoqattamRockslide#\">Ghafari&#8217;s Picassa site<\/a>, of the aftermath:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/08_09-cairo-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/08_09-cairo-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>I will try to post an analysis of the two images by Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, there is a good analysis of the background to the landslide <a href=\"http:\/\/weekly.ahram.org.eg\/2008\/914\/eg1.htm\">here<\/a>.
