{"id":539,"date":"2008-11-02T14:10:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-02T14:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2008\/11\/02\/landslide-disaster-in-yunnan-china\/"},"modified":"2010-10-21T13:42:48","modified_gmt":"2010-10-21T17:42:48","slug":"landslide-disaster-in-yunnan-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2008\/11\/02\/landslide-disaster-in-yunnan-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Landslide disaster in Yunnan, China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.xinhuanet.com\/english\/2008-11\/02\/content_10296322.htm\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">Xinhua<\/span><\/a>, the Chinese Official news agency, is reporting a series of landslide disasters in Yunnan Province, China this weekend:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size:85%\">&#8220;Twenty people died and 42 were missing after landslides and mud-rock flows hit southwest China&#8217;s Yunnan Province over the weekend, said local authorities.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size:85%\">  The disasters hit <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">Chuxiong<\/span> <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">Yi<\/span> Autonomous Prefecture, and four counties and a district of the provincial capital Kunming, the provincial civil affairs department said.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size:85%\">  More than 1,000 houses collapsed or were damaged in the disasters.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size:85%\">  Tents, quilts and clothes were being transported to the areas. The casualties and damages were also being assessed.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:85%\"><span style=\"font-family:arial\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mud-rock flows are debris flows.<\/p>\n<p>The worst landslide appears to have occurred close to <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\">Chuxiong<\/span> City, where <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/homepageCrisis\/idUSL2355879._CH_.2400\">Reuters<\/a> (and others) are reporting 15 deaths and 34 people missing.
