One of the concerns has always been the likely behaviour of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/wp-content\/scripts\/daveslandslideblog.blogspot.com.bouncer.php\/daveslandslideblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/nasa-imagery-of-sichuan-landslides.html\">landslides during heavy rainfall events<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the forthcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hku.hk\/sinorock\/\">Sinorock 2009<\/a> conference in Hong Kong there will be a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.iwhr.com\/Sinorock\/routes.asp\"> tour to the earthquake-affected area<\/a> to look at and discuss the landslides.  The organisers have put together a web page about this tour (see here).  Interestingly, thy have posted three images of Beichuan:<\/p>\n<p>First, before the earthquake:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.iwhr.com\/Sinorock\/images\/routes-13.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer;width: 244px;height: 183px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.iwhr.com\/Sinorock\/images\/routes-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Second after the earthquake:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.iwhr.com\/Sinorock\/images\/routes-14.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer;width: 244px;height: 183px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.iwhr.com\/Sinorock\/images\/routes-14.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>And third, most importantly, after a very intense rainfall event on 24th September 2008:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.iwhr.com\/Sinorock\/images\/routes-15.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer;width: 400px;height: 238px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.iwhr.com\/Sinorock\/images\/routes-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>Note the extensive movement of sediment, which has caused the river bed to agrade and bury many structures.  This is very similar to what happened in parts of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/wp-content\/scripts\/daveslandslideblog.blogspot.com.bouncer.php\/daveslandslideblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/nasa-imagery-of-sichuan-landslides.html\">Taiwan after the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake<\/a>.
