{"id":44051,"date":"2023-06-26T07:07:02","date_gmt":"2023-06-26T07:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=44051"},"modified":"2023-06-26T07:07:02","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T07:07:02","slug":"sasso-rosso-landslide-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2023\/06\/26\/sasso-rosso-landslide-1\/","title":{"rendered":"The 27 December 1898 Sasso Rosso landslide in Switzerland"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>The 27 December 1898 Sasso Rosso landslide in Switzerland<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>In the aftermath of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2023\/06\/21\/brienz-brinzauls-rockslide\/\">Brienz-Brinzauls landslide in Switzerland<\/a>, I have been looking at other notable events in that country.\u00a0 An open access paper (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intechopen.com\/chapters\/61775\">Condera <em>et al.<\/em> 2018)<\/a> in an edited volume on <em>Natural Hazards<\/em> briefly describe the 27 December 1898 Sasso Rossa landslide in Switzerland near to the village of Airolo in Ticino.\u00a0 This was a 500,000 cubic metre landslide that killed three people as well as destroying a hotel and 11 houses.
