{"id":42308,"date":"2022-12-12T06:58:24","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T06:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=42308"},"modified":"2022-12-12T14:17:19","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T14:17:19","slug":"save-the-hills-pathing-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2022\/12\/12\/save-the-hills-pathing-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Save The Hills: raising awareness on impact of landslides on rural communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Save The Hills: raising awareness on impact of landslides on rural communities<\/h4>\n<p>Long time readers of this blog will be aware of my admiration of a wonderful NGO, <a href=\"http:\/\/savethehills.blogspot.com\/\">Save The Hills<\/a>, which is a group of concerned citizens who seek to raise awareness of landslides in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?s=darjeeling&amp;submit.x=0&amp;submit.y=0&amp;mswhere=blog\">Darjeeling-Sikkim Himalaya<\/a>.\u00a0 I have been privileged to be in regular contact for many years with the founder, Praful Rao, and many other landslide experts have worked with the group too.\u00a0 They run a wonderful blog about landslides in this region.\u00a0 This is grass roots activism as its very finest.<\/p>\n<p>As part of their efforts to raise awareness of landslides, <a href=\"http:\/\/savethehills.blogspot.com\/2022\/12\/raising-awareness-on-impact.html\">Save The Hills has produced two short but powerful documentaries about the impact of landslides in a remote village, Pathing<\/a>.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-9uxcI3NRXE\">The first video was made in November 2022<\/a>, highlighting the way in which the large Gaguney Landslide is steadily and systematically destroying the loves of this rural community.\u00a0 The video combines testimony from the local people with stunning drone footage:-<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gaguney Landslide (Part I) : Pathing  (South Sikkim, India), a village on the edge\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-9uxcI3NRXE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
