{"id":41074,"date":"2022-06-07T07:20:35","date_gmt":"2022-06-07T07:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=41074"},"modified":"2022-06-07T07:25:26","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T07:25:26","slug":"thai-nguyen-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2022\/06\/07\/thai-nguyen-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Thai Nguyen: the destructive power of rockfalls"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Thai Nguyen: the destructive power of rockfalls<\/h4>\n<p>I have written frequently about the dangers associated with poor quality road construction in mountainous areas, which often leaves steep cut slopes prone to landslides and rockfalls.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?s=road+AND+rockfall&amp;submit.x=0&amp;submit.y=0&amp;mswhere=blog\">Over the years I have documented numerous examples of tragedies that have occurred as a result<\/a>.\u00a0 Sadly, poor construction approaches continue, especially in countries such as Nepal and India.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Pvt0XD-l9XE\">A video posted to Youtube last week<\/a> illustrates the destructive power of rockfalls in a highly graphic manner.\u00a0 The video was captured on 26 May at Thai Nguyen province in Vietnam.\u00a0 I have no more context than this, but it serves as a stark illustration:-<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Motorcyclist almost hit by a landslide\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Pvt0XD-l9XE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
