Image collected in August 2020.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The stand out feature of this image is that this is an area that is dreadfully impacted by landslides.\u00a0 This is an area that is heavily affected by mining, including one of the largest gold mines in Peru.\u00a0 There is also a large amount of informal mining, which might explain the environmental damage seen in the images.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidaritycenter.org\/thousands-peru-mineworkers-struggle-decent-work\/\">These informal mines are reported to employ up to 5,000 miners<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 15 March 2022 a large landslide occurred at Retamas in La Libertad in Peru.
