{"id":4037,"date":"2011-12-14T08:46:11","date_gmt":"2011-12-14T08:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=4037"},"modified":"2011-12-14T08:46:11","modified_gmt":"2011-12-14T08:46:11","slug":"new-landslides-in-colombia-15-people-reported-killed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2011\/12\/14\/new-landslides-in-colombia-15-people-reported-killed\/","title":{"rendered":"New landslide(s?) in Colombia &#8211; 15 people reported killed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2011\/11\/08\/rising-trends-in-landslides-in-colombia\/\">18 months rains in Colombia have extracted a very high toll<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2011\/12\/10\/a-stunning-new-landslide-video-paz-de-rio-boyaca-colombia\/\">widespread landslides<\/a> and floods.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the start of the next rainy season appears to be continuing this pattern.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laht.com\/article.asp?ArticleId=452024&amp;CategoryId=12393\">LAHT reports that<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;At least 16 people may have been buried in three mudslides in an  isolated part of the southwestern Colombian province of Nari\u00f1o, an  official told Efe on Tuesday.\u00a0 The number of missing people  corresponds with reports from residents of the village of Moncayo, where  the landslides occurred on Monday night, the provincial government  secretary, Fabio Trujillo, told Efe by telephone.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/colombiareports.com\/colombia-news\/news\/21031-families-buried-in-northern-colombia-landslide.html\">Colombia Reports is stating a similar impact<\/a>, although note the different area:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Families living in three houses in La Cruz, in the Atlantico department, northern <a title=\"Colombia\" href=\"http:\/\/colombiareports.com\/\" target=\"_parent\">Colombia<\/a>, have been buried by a landslide, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eltiempo.com\/colombia\/occidente\/deslizamiento-en-el-municipio-de-la-cruz-en-narino_10912210-4\" target=\"_blank\">Colombian media reported Tuesday<\/a>.\u00a0 Emergency services are trying to reach the 16 people who are trapped  but landslides have also blocked roads. Heavy rains are further  hampering the rescue attempt.\u00a0 La Cruz mayor Alexander Realpe said the situation in the town  remained critical, and it was not appropriate to expose rescue workers  to such extreme risk.
