{"id":39704,"date":"2021-11-30T09:17:40","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T09:17:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=39704"},"modified":"2021-11-30T09:17:40","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T09:17:40","slug":"ananea-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2021\/11\/30\/ananea-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Ananea: a significant mine waste failure in Peru"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Ananea: a significant mine waste failure in Peru<\/h4>\n<p>On 26 November 2021 a significant landslide occurred in mine waste near to the town on Ananea in Peru.\u00a0 I will say from the start that I am finding it extremely difficult to piece this event together as there is a wide range of conflicting information and images.\u00a0 I am unsure as to whether this was a single event or a series of related failures, and I am unsure as to the level of damage.\u00a0 Unfortunately at present there is no good satellite imagery.<\/p>\n<p>I would welcome any insight that anyone can provide.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll try to set out what I do know.\u00a0 The official <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/COENPeru\">COEN-INDICI (Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia Nacional) Twitter site<\/a> confirms that an event occurred on that date:-<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COENInforma?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COENInforma<\/a><br \/>El 26\/11 se produjo un <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Deslizamiento?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Deslizamiento<\/a> que caus\u00f3 da\u00f1os a viviendas y carretera en el distrito Ananea, provincia San Antonio de Putina (Puno). Autoridades locales evacuaron a las personas afectadas y coordinan su reubicaci\u00f3n. (1\/2) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gEqFENttIr\">pic.twitter.com\/gEqFENttIr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; COEN &#8211; INDECI (@COENPeru) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/COENPeru\/status\/1465272202333462534?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 29, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The translation is: <em><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">On 11\/26 there was a #landslide t<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">hat caused damage to homes and roads in the Ananea district, San Antonio de Putina province (Puno). Local authorities evacuated the affected people and are coordinating their relocation. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The photograph shows the aftermath of a large landslide.
