Still from a video posted to Twitter<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Note the small pile of debris on the road before the main collapse occurred.\u00a0 This indicates that there was some precursory deformation, which presumably provided warning of an impending collapse.<\/p>\n<p>The landslide appears to have occurred in dry weather, but we are in the tail end of the monsoon, which may have played a role in progressively weakening the hillslope.<\/p>\n<p>Works are under way to reopen the road.\u00a0 As usual, these operations carry considerable risk.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A large landslide occurred on National Highway 5 in at Jeori in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh on 6 September 2021.
