{"id":37937,"date":"2021-06-28T08:49:50","date_gmt":"2021-06-28T08:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=37937"},"modified":"2021-06-28T08:49:50","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T08:49:50","slug":"kara-keche-landslide-in-kyrgyzstan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2021\/06\/28\/kara-keche-landslide-in-kyrgyzstan\/","title":{"rendered":"Kara-Keche: the September 2020 landslide in Kyrgyzstan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Kara-Keche: the September 2020 landslide in Kyrgyzstan<\/h4>\n<p>On 14 September 2020 a large landslide occurred in the coal mining area of Kara-Keche in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?s=kyrgyzstan&amp;submit.x=0&amp;submit.y=0&amp;mswhere=blog\">Kyrgyzstan<\/a>.\u00a0 This landslide was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AtgYHKY1r1A\">captured on a remarkable video that was posted to Youtube<\/a>:<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"landslide in Kyrgyzstan 2020\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AtgYHKY1r1A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>There are some not very specific news reports online about this landslide, which is located at 41.722, 74.779.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.for.kg\/news-666723-en.html\">For example, for.kg has the following report<\/a>:-<\/p>\n<p><em>The landslide occurred in the evening of September 14 on the 37th km of the Dyikan-Kara-Keche road. The collapsed slope of the mountain blocked the gorge and the river. Image copyright <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planet.com\/\">Planet Labs<\/a>, used with permission.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>This image, collected on 29 August 2020, shows that failure at the site was already developing, with a not insubstantial collapse being clearly evident at the toe of what became the main slide.\u00a0 The debris from this collapse appears to have reached the road.<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear as to the role of mining in this collapse event.\u00a0 Mine workings are evident on the imagery in the upper left corner, but the slope itself does not appear to have been mined.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<h4>Reference<\/h4>\n<p>Planet Team (2021).
