href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2021\/04\/11\/culluchaca-1\/\">Culluchaca landslide in Peru<\/a>, I spent some time looking at the morphology of the site using the Google Earth Imagery.\u00a0 As a reminder, this\u00a0 is what the Google Earth images show.\u00a0 The image was collected in July 2019:-<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_37358\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption first set, marked with A, are about 50 metres back from the landslide crown.\u00a0 But there is another set, marked with B, that are probably less well developed.\u00a0 These are about 150 metres back from the landslide crown, indicating a very large instability.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps even more interesting is the set of features further across the slope.\u00a0 The image below shows the morphology of class=\"wp-caption-text\">Google Earth view of features at the crest of the landslide close to Culluchaca in Peru.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Running across the slope parallel to the crest is an array of linear depressions, some of which are large and extensive.\u00a0 Upslope from here is a ridge with extensive bouldery deposits, which is probably a scarp.<\/p>\n<p>The most likely explanation for these features at that this is the site of a <em>deep-seated gravitational deformation (DSGD)<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/referenceworkentry\/10.1007%2F978-1-4020-4399-4_86\">defined as<\/a> <em>&#8220;a gravity-induced process affecting large portions of slopes evolving over very long periods of time.
