a large landslide on 7 April 2021 in Peru"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Culluchaca: a large landslide on 7 April 2021 in Peru<\/h4>\n<p>On 7 April 2021 a large failure occurred close to the village of Culluchaca in Huari province of the \u00c1ncash region of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?s=peru&amp;submit.x=0&amp;submit.y=0&amp;mswhere=blog\">Peru<\/a>.\u00a0 The landslide did not claim any lives but caused serious damage to about 1 km of National Road 14a:-<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_37357\" style=\"width: 724px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" Peru.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The image shows an existing large failure at this site.\u00a0 Note also the very clear tension cracks located above the existing crest of the landslide.\u00a0 I Noticias.<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Note the very extensive scale of the landslide in the image above.\u00a0 It is clear that a large volume has failed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ancashnoticias.com\/2021\/04\/08\/falla-geologica-destruye-via-de-mas-de-un-kilometro-en-huari-y-deja-incomunicada-a-la-poblacion\/\">According to a news report in \u00c1ncash Noticias (in Spanish)<\/a>, the population of the village of Culluchaca have had to be evacuated because of the risk.\u00a0 In addition the landslide has disrupted the electricity network supply the districts of Huacachi, Anra, Uco, Rapay\u00e1n, Paucas and Huacchis in the province of Huari, and some parts of the province of\u00a0Antonio Raimondi and Huamalies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gJWlWs6ijyM\">There is a video that captures some of the failure and the aftermath on Youtube<\/a>:-<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Peru - Tanah clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly reinstatement of the road will be important, but this will not be possible until the landslide has stabilised again.\u00a0 It will not be a straightforward problem to solve.\u00a0 Fortunately the images above suggest that the river is probably not blocked by the landslide, at present
