map below shows<\/a>, three days ago Typhoon Nesat tracked across Luzon in the northern part of the Philippines, bringing<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsflash.org\/2004\/02\/hl\/hl111133.htm\"> intense rainfall that triggered landslides and widespread floodin<\/a>g.\u00a0 That storm has now tracked to the west and will shortly make landfall in the northern part of Vietnam, again bringing <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/wireStory\/typhoon-weakens-tropical-storm-vietnam-14637724\">intense rainfall that is likely to trigger landslides<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3708\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2011\/09\/30\/typhoon-nalgae-high-landslide-potential-in-the-philippines-over-the-next-24-hours\/11_09-nesat-1\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3708\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2011\/09\/11_09-Nesat-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of perhaps greater otential importance, in terms of impact at least, is the track of the next typhoon, Nalgae.\u00a0 Over the nest 24 hours this is expected to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jma.go.jp\/en\/typh\/1119l.html\">make landfall over the same area<\/a> of the Philippines, also bringing very heavy rainfall:<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3709\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2011\/09\/30\/typhoon-nalgae-high-landslide-potential-in-the-philippines-over-the-next-24-hours\/11_09-nalgae-1\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3709\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2011\/09\/11_09-Nalgae-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"639\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In landslide and flood terms, the potential impact of this intense storm is very serious.\u00a0 The heavy rainfall that it is likely to bring will fall on ground that is already saturated and rivers that are still in flood.\u00a0 The potential for damaging landslides is thus much higher.\u00a0 Unfortunately, past history has shown that this part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2009\/10\/11\/video-of-the-aftermath-of-landslides-triggered-by-typhoon-parma-in-the-philippines\/\">Philippines is very vulnerable to typhoon-induced landslides<\/a>.\u00a0 The next 24 hours will be a very dangerous time in this part of the Philippines.\u00a0 One can only hope that the storm passes across Luzon
