{"id":35336,"date":"2020-10-26T08:37:42","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T08:37:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=35336"},"modified":"2020-10-26T21:20:28","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T21:20:28","slug":"landslides-and-roads-recent-examples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2020\/10\/26\/landslides-and-roads-recent-examples\/","title":{"rendered":"Landslides and roads &#8211; recent examples"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Landslides and roads &#8211; recent examples<\/h4>\n<p>The recent extreme rainfall in Vietnam has <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2020\/10\/19\/huong-phung-landslide-1\/\">triggered a large number of damaging landslides<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2020\/10\/14\/rao-trang\/\">high levels of loss of life<\/a>.&nbsp; Less well reported is the impact of these landslides on the road network of the country.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/e.vnexpress.net\/news\/news\/highways-ravaged-by-landslides-in-central-vietnam-4182129.html\">VNExpress has a nice article today with a gallery of images of the damage caused by these landslides<\/a>.&nbsp; It reports that:<\/p>\n<p><em>The government has to spend some VND350 billion ($15 million) to repair national highways that have been destroyed by landslides during the recent floods in the central region.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The image below, which has the following caption <em>&#8220;A section of National Highway 12A between Khe Ve Intersection and Cha Lo Border Gate in Minh Hoa District, Quang Binh Province was hit by landslide on October 19.
