Image captured on 12 April 2020, copyright <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planet.com\/\">Planet Labs<\/a>, used with permission.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, this appears to be a comparatively new fly ash storage facility.\u00a0 Google Earth imagery from September 2018 does not show any storage at this particular location.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sandrp.in\/2020\/04\/12\/singruali-fly-ash-dam-breach-who-regulates-these-dams-in-india\/\">The SANDRP article indicates that this is the third such incident in India in the last year<\/a>:-<\/p>\n<p><em>First in August 2019, there was breach in artificial pond of Essar Power Company and then in October 2019 a similar incident had taken place in Vindhyachal super thermal power plant owned by NTPC in the district. Both the incidents had caused wide scale destruction. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Back in 2009, when this blog was still on its old site, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2009\/01\/06\/the-tennessee-flow-slide-accident-what-went-wrong\/\">I posted about a major fly ash failure in Tennessee<\/a>.
