{"id":32454,"date":"2019-10-18T06:59:59","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T06:59:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=32454"},"modified":"2019-10-22T07:08:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T07:08:00","slug":"typhoon-hagibis-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2019\/10\/18\/typhoon-hagibis-1\/","title":{"rendered":"The landslide impact of Typhoon Hagibis in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>The landslide impact of Typhoon Hagibis in Japan<\/h4>\n<p>The landslide impact of Typhoon Hagibis in Japan is slowly becoming apparent.\u00a0 For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/news\/2019\/10\/18\/national\/landslides-2020-tokyo-olympic-cycling-road-kanagawa\/\">the Japan Times has a nice article<\/a> about landslides along the route of the 2020 Olympic cycling road race.\u00a0 This area has suffered sever landslide impacts.\u00a0 The article has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WtwyPP4rRXQ\">good Youtube video<\/a> with some very nice images of the landslides and their impacts upon the road:-<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u4e94\u8f2a\u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca\u30b3\u30fc\u30b9\u3067\u88ab\u5bb3\u3000\u7d05\u8449\u524d\u306e\u9ad8\u5c3e\u5c71\u3067\u3082\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb(19\/10\/17)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WtwyPP4rRXQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>I would imagine that the road will be repaired ahead of the Olympics, although this is uncertain at present.\u00a0 It is of course worth noting though that the Olympic Games will be held in the typhoon season.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/mainichi.jp\/english\/articles\/20191017\/p2a\/00m\/0na\/020000c\">The Mainichi<\/a> has an article about a mountain railway in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture that has also been severely damaged by landslides:-<\/p>\n<div><em>The amount of rainfall topped 1,000 millimeters in Hakone, which caused major disruptions to the tracks in at least 20 locations. The rain triggered landslides and washed away track ballast. It also swept away about 23 meters of train tracks between Miyanoshita and Kowakidani stations and fallen rocks covered the tracks near Ohiradai Tunnel between Ohiradai and Miyanoshita stations.
