{"id":31169,"date":"2019-06-11T06:10:34","date_gmt":"2019-06-11T06:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=31169"},"modified":"2019-06-11T06:10:34","modified_gmt":"2019-06-11T06:10:34","slug":"landslide-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2019\/06\/11\/landslide-videos\/","title":{"rendered":"Three new landslide videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Three new landslide videos<\/h4>\n<p>Three good landslide videos have been posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\">Youtube<\/a>, all of which are worth a look.\u00a0 We are now moving into the rainy season across much of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/07\/11\/monsoon-mayhem-in-centrl-china\/\">East<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2018\/04\/26\/landslides-monsoon-variation-1\/\">South Asia<\/a>, meaning that <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2018\/08\/24\/global-fatal-landslide-occurrence-1\/\">landslide occurrence is increasing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>An impressive landslide in Fujian, China<\/h4>\n<p>This landslide, posted by New China TV, reportedly occurred in Sanming in Fujian in China.\u00a0 The reports indicate that it was triggered by heavy rainfall:-<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Video captures moment landslide occurs in Fujian, China\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_DPfbwRfw4Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>This still seems to suggest that the landslide initiated on a steep slope that had been cut at the toe.\u00a0 Note the slope reinforcement on the lower part of the slope.\u00a0 It is also interesting to note the presence of the electricity pylon, which appears to be close to the crown of the landslide:-<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_31171\" style=\"width: 424px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31171\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31171\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2019\/06\/19_06-Video-1.jpg\" alt=\"The landslide at Sanming in China\" width=\"414\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2019\/06\/19_06-Video-1.jpg 414w, https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2019\/06\/19_06-Video-1-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-31171\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The site of the landslide at Sanming in Fujian, Chine. Still from a video posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_DPfbwRfw4Y\">Youtube by New China TV<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<h4>A large landslide in the mountains of Hunza, near to Attabad in Pakistan<\/h4>\n<p>Northern Areas of Pakistan has posted a nice video of an apparently large landslide in the Bulbul Ke\u0161k area of Gulmit in Gojal-Hunza in northern Pakistan, which occurred on 4th June 2019.\u00a0 The report indicates that the toe of the landslide reached <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2012\/07\/09\/guardian-article-on-the-attabad-landslide-and-the-karakoram-highway\/\">Attabad Lake<\/a>, causing the boat service to be suspended.\u00a0 Understandably, given the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2011\/05\/17\/attabad-landslide-geohazards-5-presentation\/\">experience at Attabad nine years ago<\/a>, this has caused a great deal of concern in the area.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Another Biggest Landslide Near Attabad Lake Hunza\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RR5DuvLnI_o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<h4>A mobile landslide in Himachal Pradesh, northern India.<\/h4>\n<p>Finally, Khabar Bharat has posted a nice video of a much smaller but quite mobile landslide in Kullu District in the Karsha area of Himachal Pradesh in northern India:-<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NH 305 Aani To Luhri Blocked in Kullu District after Landslide in Karsha Area in Kullu HP\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GI-XlER74xA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>This landslide reportedly blocked the NH305 road between Aani and Luhri.\u00a0 Interestingly, the landslide appears to have occurred in dry conditions (note the large amounts of dust generated by the landslide).
