Still from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0Xf5dIXCKBY\">Youtube video.<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The red mass is undoubtedly the tailings, whilst the grey is probably the remains of the starter embankment (and perhaps other embankments) at the toe.&nbsp; If so the deposit has remained well segregated, which may tell us something about the failure process.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a lot of speculation in the media about the activities of the people who were on the dam at the time of the failure.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vale.com\/EN\/aboutvale\/news\/Pages\/Vale-clarifies-about-people-at-the-dam-drainage-warning-siren-and-escape-route.aspx\">Vale has released a statement saying that they were undertaking routine work<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;In the specific case of the footage broadcast by the media on Friday (01\/02), which showed the exact moment when the Dam I breached at the C\u00f3rrego do Feij\u00e3o mine in Brumadinho, the professionals who appear in the footage in the dam area were performing routine tasks. One of the activities performed included the collection of data for compliance with legal requirements, as determined by the Brazilian Mining Agency.
