{"id":29313,"date":"2018-11-20T07:06:50","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T07:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=29313"},"modified":"2018-11-20T07:06:50","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T07:06:50","slug":"borba-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2018\/11\/20\/borba-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Borba, Portugal: a major quarry landslide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Borba, Portugal: a major quarry landslide<\/h4>\n<p>Yesterday (19th November 2018) a major landslide occurred at Borba in Evora, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2013\/04\/05\/landslides-in-portugal-including-a-new-landslide-video\/\">Portugal<\/a>.\u00a0 This landslide is known to have killed at least two people, with a further four missing.\u00a0 Rescue operations are under way but are described as being exceptionally challenging.\u00a0 The prospects for those missing do not seem good given the nature of the landslide.<\/p>\n<p>There is an excellent, <a href=\"https:\/\/observador.pt\/2018\/11\/19\/parte-da-estrada-entre-borba-e-vila-vicosa-em-evora-abateu-pode-haver-vitimas\/\">detailed article in Portuguese on the Observador website<\/a>, which includes the following image that gives an overview of the slide:-<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29315\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29315\" class=\"size-full wp-image-29315\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2018\/11\/18_11-Portugal-1-e1542696261892.jpg\" alt=\"Borba\" width=\"640\" height=\"404\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29315\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The landslide close to Borba in Portugal on 19th November 2018.
