href=\"http:\/\/www.visir.is\/g\/2018180709131\">There is a good drone video on Visir<\/a>.\u00a0 The landslide debris reportedly covers an area of about 1.8 km\u00b2 and a runout distance across the plain of about 1.5 km.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruv.is\/frett\/hamfarir-i-hitardal-varla-ad-eg-trui-thessu\">There is a news report<\/a>, also with some good quality drone and helicopter imagery of the landslide, on RUV.\u00a0 It is in Icelandic, but <a appears that the water will probably find an alternative channel fairly quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst northern Europe is having an exceptional summer (the weather in the UK is the driest in 40 years for example), Iceland is suffering from very poor conditions.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/icelandreview.com\/news\/2018\/05\/29\/reykjaviks-rain-record-broken\">May was the wettest on record in Reykjavik<\/a>, and June was no better, <a href=\"http:\/\/icelandreview.com\/news\/2018\/07\/03\/reykjavik-has-least-sunny-june-thirty-years\">suffering the lowest number of hours of sunshine in June in recorded history<\/a>.\u00a0 Thus, it seems likely that the landslide was a consequence of the high levels of recent rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>This landslide will have generated a strong seismic signal,
