Still from a video posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1WRiL3hmjdI\">Youtube by New China TV.<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cctvplus.com\/news\/20180505\/8079969.shtml#!language=1\">CCTV have a little more detail about the landslide<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>A massive landslide on Saturday buried a road section in Mabian Yi Autonomous County in southwest China&#8217;s Sichuan Province, terrifying the people who witnessed the disaster.\u00a0 Soil and boulders estimated over 50,000 cubic meters in volume cut off a nearby road and partially blocked a nearby river.\u00a0 Learning about the disaster, local government immediately deployed traffic police officers and road maintenance workers to handle the situation.\u00a0 The police now cordoned off the affected section and the workers are clearing the debris from the road.\u00a0 No casualties have so far been reported in the disaster.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waonews.com\/news\/17615-Sichuan_Leshan_Mabian_mountain_collapse_cube_50_thousand_cubic_meters_no_casualties.html\">Waonews report that the location was as follows<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>At 12:30 on May 5th, a high slope collapsed (the mileage position of wave three road K6+240~320) at Po three road (pineapple bridge &#8211; Sanhekou township) Sanhekou Township, Leshan city of Mabian Yi Autonomous County (pineapple bridge &#8211; Sanhekou township).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From this I have been able to track the location down to 28.835, 103.361.\u00a0 This is an image of the site from Google Earth, captured in 2016:-<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27692\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27692\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27692\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2018\/05\/18_05-Mabian-Yi-3-e1526021510938.jpg\" alt=\"Mabian Yi\" width=\"640\" height=\"493\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-27692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Google Earth imagery of the site of the Mabian Yi landslide in China.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Note the apparent tension cracks at the ridge crest.\u00a0 This was a landslide that has been developing for some time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday 5th May a spectacular landslide at Mabian Yi in Sichuan Province in China was caught on video.
