{"id":27610,"date":"2018-05-01T06:31:44","date_gmt":"2018-05-01T06:31:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=27610"},"modified":"2018-05-01T06:31:44","modified_gmt":"2018-05-01T06:31:44","slug":"caijiazhuang-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2018\/05\/01\/caijiazhuang-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Caijiazhuang village: a cracking-sliding landslide that has killed nine people"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Caijiazhuang village: a cracking-sliding landslide that has killed nine people<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2018\/04\/30\/cracking-sliding-failures-1\/\">Yesterday I highlighted recently published research into the diurnal cycle and its impacts on cracking-sliding landslides on the Loess Plateau in China<\/a>.\u00a0 Ironically, the same day an example of such a landslide occurred, on this occasion at Caijiazhuang village in Lishi District of Lyuliang City, in Shanxi Province.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xinhuanet.com\/english\/2018-04\/30\/c_137147129.htm\">Xinhua has an unusually brief report on the landslide, which notes that<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Nine people have died in a landslide in north China&#8217;s Shanxi Province, local authorities said Monday.\u00a0 The landslide happened at around 4:57 a.m. Monday in Caijiazhuang village in Lishi District of Lyuliang City, the local publicity department said.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nat-hazards-earth-syst-sci.net\/18\/1223\/2018\/\">Li <em>et al.<\/em> (2018)<\/a> research that I featured yesterday noted that these landslides occur preferentially between 10 pm and 5 am, so this landslide fits the pattern.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/east-asia\/landslide-in-northern-china-kills-9\">The Straits Times<\/a> has a couple of images of the landslide:-<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27613\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27613\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27613\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2018\/05\/18_04-cracking-3-e1525155038981.jpg\" alt=\"Caijiazhuang\" width=\"640\" height=\"471\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-27613\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The cracking-sliding landslide at Caijiazhuang in China on 30th April, which killed nine people.
