{"id":25947,"date":"2017-10-16T06:02:07","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T06:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=25947"},"modified":"2017-10-16T06:03:07","modified_gmt":"2017-10-16T06:03:07","slug":"phu-cuong-commune-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2017\/10\/16\/phu-cuong-commune-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Phu Cuong commune: a major landslide has killed 18 people in Vietnam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Phu Cuong commune: a major landslide has killed 18 people in Vietnam<\/h4>\n<p>Over the last few days, heavy rainfall has affected the northern and central provinces of Vietnam.\u00a0 The most serious incident appears to be a landslide that struck Phu Cuong commune in Tan Lac district, located in the northern province of Hoa Binh.\u00a0 Latest reports suggest that 18 people were killed in this event.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elevenmyanmar.com\/asean\/11997\">Eleven has a good report about the impact of this major landslide<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>The villagers were asleep when a massive amount of soil and rocks, triggered by heavy rainfall, rolled down an adjacent hill at about 1am Thursday, the newspaper reported. At least eighteen people, most family members, were buried alive.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>One of the survivors, B\u00f9i V\u0103n D\u0169ng, 26, was still shaken when recalling the disaster, 35 hours after it happened.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>\u201cWe were sleeping. It was pitch-dark,\u201d he told D\u00e2n Vi\u1ec7t. \u201cI opened my eyes to a loud \u2018bang!\u2019 and found myself lying under the sky, my legs buried in rocks. Everything was shaking.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>Horrified, D\u0169ng grabbed a flashlight to find his wife and daughter in the same situation some 10 metres away.
