{"id":24210,"date":"2017-06-13T06:15:39","date_gmt":"2017-06-13T06:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=24210"},"modified":"2017-06-13T06:15:39","modified_gmt":"2017-06-13T06:15:39","slug":"amyntaiou-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2017\/06\/13\/amyntaiou-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Amyntaiou lignite mine landslide in Greece: more information"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>The Amyntaiou lignite mine landslide in Greece: more information<\/h5>\n<p>Over the last 24 hours more information has emerged about the Amyntaiou lignite mine landslide in Greece, which led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2017\/06\/12\/anargyroi-1\/\">permanent evacuation of the village of Anargyroi in Northern Greece on Saturday<\/a>.\u00a0 Perhaps most interestingly, a video has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dn9UVoaLJcA&amp;feature=youtu.be\">posted on Youtube that shows the landslide as it occurred<\/a>.\u00a0 Whilst the quality of the video is not high, at about the 38 second mark it does seem to show one of the large excavators toppling:-<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u039a\u0391\u03a4\u0391\u03a3\u03a4\u03a1\u039f\u03a6\u0397 \u03a3\u03a4\u039f \u039f\u03a1\u03a5\u03a7\u0395\u0399\u039f \u0391\u039c\u03a5\u039d\u03a4\u0391\u0399\u039f\u03a5 2\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dn9UVoaLJcA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; Even though <\/span><span title=\"\u0391\u03bd \u03ba\u03b1\u03b9 \u03bf\u03b9 \u03b4\u03cd\u03bf \u03bb\u03b9\u03b3\u03bd\u03b9\u03c4\u03b9\u03ba\u03ad\u03c2 \u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u03ac\u03b4\u03b5\u03c2 \u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03c4\u03bf\u03c5\u03c1\u03b3\u03bf\u03cd\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd \u03c0\u03bb\u03ae\u03c1\u03c9\u03c2 \u03bc\u03cc\u03bd\u03bf \u03b1\u03c0\u03cc \u03c4\u03b7\u03bd \u039f\u03ba\u03c4\u03ce\u03b2\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf \u03ad\u03c9\u03c2 \u03ba\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c4\u03bf\u03bd \u0391\u03c0\u03c1\u03af\u03bb\u03b9\u03bf, \u03b5\u03bd \u03c4\u03bf\u03cd\u03c4\u03bf\u03b9\u03c2 \u03bf\u03b9 \u03b1\u03c0\u03ce\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03b5\u03c2 \u03b9\u03c3\u03c7\u03cd\u03bf\u03c2 \u03b4\u03bf\u03ba\u03b9\u03bc\u03ac\u03b6\u03bf\u03c5\u03bd \u03c4\u03b1 \u03cc\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1 \u03c4\u03b7\u03c2 \u03b5\u03c0\u03ac\u03c1\u03ba\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\u03c2 \u03c1\u03b5\u03cd\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2. \">the two lignite units were fully operational from October to April, power supply shortages might occur.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Also, the effect of the landslides might be felt by 1,700 people who are at risk of finding themselves without a job. PPC was employing 850 workers at the Anargyroi mine, while there were 500 people employed by the contractors. Also, on Friday, one day before the landslide, another 350 seasonal employees were hired by PPC to work in the facilities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.gr\/news\/ellada\/story\/84518\/amyntaio-o-dieythynon-symvoylos-tis-deh-gia-tis-ektimiseis-ton-zimion\">PPC is denying these claims<\/a>, claiming that losses are likely to be in the order of 200 million Euros.\u00a0 Even so, this is an exceptionally expensive landslide.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24214\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24214\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24214\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2017\/06\/17_06-Anargyroi-5-e1497333732501.jpg\" alt=\"Amyntaiou landslide \" width=\"640\" height=\"357\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-24214\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Amyntaiou landslide in Greece.
