{"id":24052,"date":"2017-05-31T05:58:58","date_gmt":"2017-05-31T05:58:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=24052"},"modified":"2017-05-31T05:58:58","modified_gmt":"2017-05-31T05:58:58","slug":"illgraben-catchment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2017\/05\/31\/illgraben-catchment\/","title":{"rendered":"Illgraben &#8211; another dramatic debris flow video"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Illgraben catchment &#8211; another dramatic debris flow video<\/h5>\n<p>In July last year <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2016\/07\/28\/illgraben-debris-flow-video\/\">I posted a video of a very violent debris flow video from the Illgraben catchment<\/a>, located near to the near the village of Susten (Leuk), in Canton Valais, Switzerland. Within a few seconds, the torrential debris reached the bridge from which the reader Beat Kellenberger filmed the spectacle of nature.\u00a0 &#8220;A quarter of an hour before, there were already heavy noises,&#8221; explains the Swiss man, who said that these avalanches of water, fine sediments and rock are triggered once or twice a year in this region of Haut- Valais.<\/p>\n<p>The early weekend torrents were caused by a combination of thunderstorms, rain and meltwater, writes the Institute for the Study of Snow and Avalanche (SLF). They added that the mass had flowed into the Rhone and that the inhabitants of the region had been warned in time.
